We have collected hundreds of signatures for our petition to get the City of Springfield to adopt the same type of program Greenfield, MA has of using 100% renewable energy to combat climate change. Let's keep the momentum going to reach our goal of 1,000 signatures in support of Community Choice Energy (CCE) in Springfield. Our Resident Advisors are working hard by doing outreach in the community to educate other residents about how CCE could reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve health and ensure equity. We are seeking more signatures to show continued community support and you could help us too by sharing our petition for clean energy options in Springfield. 

 

Some Community Wins so far are:  

 

  • The coalition advocated by Speaking Out at the the City Council Sustainability and Environment Subcommittee meeting to support getting Community Choice Energy (CCE) in Springfield. On December 5th, the subcommittee called for a vote on the City Council floor, and the members unanimously supported it.

  • In January the City of Springfield put out a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Community Choice Energy Aggregator. This is another step forward for the City of Springfield to have 100% clean energy.

WHAT is Community Choice Energy (CCE)?

Community Choice Energy (CCE) is an energy-supply option that would allow the City of Springfield to get up to 100% of its electricity from clean, renewable energy such as solar and wind power. Eversource would still provide our energy, and we would still pay our electric bills, but switching to CCE means that together we would:

  • Combat Climate change


  • Advance Racial Equity 

  • Improve Public Health.


Currently, 80% of Springfield’s electricity comes from burning fossil fuels that worsen climate change. With CCE, we can replace dirty, polluting fossil fuels with renewable solar and wind power.


We are advocating for 100% renewable energy. Greenfield, MA has this now! The final decision for Springfield will be made by local government.

LiveWell Springfield's Climate Change, Health & Equity (CCHE) Committee has been meeting since January <year?> to work on policies to advance advocacy efforts in the areas of climate change and health and equity. We partner with the Springfield Climate Justice Initiative, to educate and engage residents on issues that directly impact their lives. We believe that change happens best when the people most impacted by the issues have a seat at the table decisions are being made that affect their lives.


The CCHE Committee's work is based on the City of Springfield's Climate Action & Resilience Plan released in 2017.
