Extreme Heat Disaster Planning

Live Well Springfield collaborates with Health Care Without Harm

Live Well Springfield brought community connections to an Extreme Heat tabletop exercise, funded by Health Care Without Harm.  The goal was to involve community organizations and residents in an emergency preparedness exercise which typically include city staff and health care only.  Pioneer Valley Planning Commission coordinated the project with the Public Health Institute of Western MA,  Live Well Springfield, and Baystate Health.  The learnings from the scenario exercise were incorporated into a standardized “climate resilience playbook” called Partnering for Climate Resilience: A Practical Guide to Community Based Disaster Planning for Healthcare.

Health Care Without Harm’s distribution to hospitals and communities in rural, suburban, and urban settings across the US to address climate change resilience for health care facilities and the communities they serve. This project continued the relationship building between our members and city emergency managers and planning.

Live Well Springfield has also  been highlighted by Health Care without Harm for its collaboration with Health Care in its report Climate Resilience for Health Care and Communities: Strategies and Case Studies.
